Have I mentioned how obsessed I am with in home sessions? K, so I’m obsessed with in home sessions- especially in home newborn sessions. Gah!
When Melissa first contacted me for this newborn session, she was a little panicked because she hadn’t already booked a photographer for a newborn session. And Madelon came before she could do so! She wanted to make sure all of Madelon’s perfectly new and tiny details were documented to be remembered and cherished forever. I totally understand the ‘oh crap, is it too late?’ feeling , and I don’t want anyone to miss out on something as important as this. Luck would have it that I actually had an opening later that week, and it all worked out! And I’m so happy that it did! Any afternoon that I get to spend with a new family this sweet, is an afternoon so well spent. Plus… BABIES. siiiigh.
A little story for you: When I was pregnant, I had every intention of taking my camera to the hospital with me. My plan was to focus on my photography during labor and use it as a distraction. Now, I cant stop laughing at that! I’m sure it’s possible, and I’ve even read articles where photographers have done that. Just not this photographer. And when that idea went out the window, so did the thought of even bringing my pro camera to the hospital at all. So I have zero nice, up-to-my-standards, non-iphone photos from when Hudson was born. Insert regret. And after he was born, life took over and I don’t think I even picked up my camera until he was a month or so old. (I have ONE. Just one from when he was a few days old.)
Anyway guys, my point here is… the regret you feel when time inevitably takes over and starts fast forwarding through life, and you’re not documenting any of that; that regret is REAL. And you don’t get that time back. So, its like EXTREMELY important that you book a photographer for this time period in life. Don’t be like me, the photographer, who didn’t take pictures or book another photographer. It’s not cool. At all.
If you need me, I’ll be ugly crying over here.
Back to the beautiful Madelon. She was so sweet and perfect, and even cracked a couple of smiles for us during the session. Andrew and Melissa are complete naturals as parents, and you’d never guess that she is their first. Andrew was the baby whisperer of our session. They both had so many tricks up their sleeves- tricks that I feel like only second time parents have. I do NOT remember having it this together! I so loved every minute of this session. I loved getting to peek in on their new life, and I love the couple of photos in the bedroom that show that. I love that they incorporated their special Grandma-made blanket. I love how comfortable they were, and how easy it was for them to slip into their regular, albeit new, routine with me there. Most of all, I love that they chose me to document this chapter of their lives. Thank you M. Family!
