This Family Session in the Forest was full to the brim with exploration!
We shot it at one of my favorite places ever. I often recommend this spot to my clients because there are so many different little places to shoot within this one location. So, if you book with me and I say “pine forest location”- this is THE one. I remember being a kid and hiking around this park with my dad and brother. This was our spot, and this still is my spot. (I love it so much that I’m shooting my mini sessions here in October.)
I live for sessions where I get to follow my clients around while they explore their surroundings. Especially family sessions with kids. I always go wherever the kids want to go and let them lead the way, and in doing that, they forget that I’m there to take their picture, and they start showing glimpses of their magical imaginations. Then the session turns into more of an adventure than a session. You could try to make everything go perfectly, or plan the entire session out before hand, but I’ve learned that going with the flow is the BEST way, because I mean… look at what happens. The session looks like this! I love everything about it!
Once the kids warmed up to me (which took about as long as it took for them to get out of the car), Margaret told me about her magic fairy gardens at home. And whenever she wasn’t talking about fairies, her and John were racing each other to the next little clearing, and then pointing out frogs and birds and different types of trees. Literally the definition of exploration. You could tell that the A. Family felt right at home there in the woods, and aside from the mosquitos eating us all alive, and the pending storm- I felt that way too.
Every year, I give away a free session as a way of saying thank you to all of you wonderful, beautiful people for supporting me over the years. I was so happy that Naomi won the free session! She’s entered to win a few years in a row, AND she hadn’t had family photos done in over two years. It was such a fun day with them, and I was more than happy to update photos for this lovely little family!
