This beachy Maternity Session in Grand Haven will forever be one of my top 5 sessions. Every time I look at these images, I’m in complete awe of how stunning this mama was and how ridiculously beautiful our state is.
This post is mainly going to be me, rambling on about my client and how amazing she is- for obvious reasons.
Nora and I worked together to plan this location out. It started as a simple maternity session at one of my go-to spots, which are all in the Metro Detroit area. In our planning, I half-joked about how cool it would be to do a sunset session over one of the Great Lakes, and as soon as those words were typed, Nora came back with a “I’m down. Let’s do that” response. Green light goooo!
We made it to the beach in Grand Haven about an hour before sunset, and I started to panic a little bit about losing light because I knew we had a long-ish walk down to the water. When I say “long-ish”, I really mean long as F. Like a few miles worth of stairs. With a pregnant lady. A 30 week, pregnant with TWINS lady. She didn’t stop the whole way there, and there was a ton of time with that warm golden light.
So now is the part where everyone but Nora can scroll away, because this will be a love letter to her. The true definition of “down for whatever”, she drove 3 hours one way for this; zero F’s given about getting sand all over her dresses; changed out on the beach even though there was a small crowd watching us the entire time up on the bluffs above us 🤣 ; didn’t even think about it when I asked her if she’d get INTO the frigid Lake Michigan water; let me rub sand and water into her hair just for *the* shot; and thennn hiked the 2 miles back to the cars, uphill, in the dark, with swollen feet, soaking wet. If I come back in another life, I want to be this level of badassery.
This was one of two beachy sessions I did in Grand Haven last summer, and clearly, I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. I have a special thing I’ll be doing there again in August 2021, and I can’t wait to be back there. (Special thing: announcing that soon to my email subscribers. Hint: more dreamy sessions- but it will be very limited in how many I’m able to do again, so sign up for my email list here!)
