Spring has a way of inviting everyone back outside. After months of cold weather and bundled-up routines, the sidewalks fill with families, the trees begin to bloom, and downtown Ann Arbor feels full of fresh energy. It was the perfect backdrop for this relaxed and joy-filled family session.
As an Ann Arbor family photographer, I’m always drawn to locations that encourage families to interact naturally instead of simply standing in one place. Downtown Ann Arbor offers exactly that. From charming brick streets to blooming trees, hidden alleyways, and quiet corners, every turn creates another opportunity for genuine moments to unfold.
This session wasn’t about perfect poses or asking everyone to smile at the camera. Instead, we wandered through downtown together, stopping whenever something caught their attention. They explored, laughed, held hands, peeked into shop windows, and grabbed some coffee + croissants to snack on. Those in-between moments; the spontaneous hugs, contagious giggles, and quiet cuddles; are always my favorite photos. This session features a mix of both digital and 35mm film! One of the biggest reasons families choose an outdoor session in Ann Arbor is because the city naturally creates movement. Kids have room to be curious, parents can focus on enjoying time together, and the session feels more like an evening spent making memories than a traditional photoshoot. Spring also brings some of the prettiest colors of the year without overpowering your family. Soft blossoms, fresh greenery, and warm evening light create a timeless backdrop that lets your connection remain the focus.
