Any family session with kids tends to have it’s own rhythm- lots of movement, lots of laughter, and very little standing still. This recent summer family session Birmingham, MI was exactly that kind of evening.

From the start, the goal was to keep the session easy and natural. Instead of focusing on perfect poses, we leaned into the energy the kids naturally brought. Running down the hill, climbing on anything they could find, spinning, laughing, and exploring the area together. The session felt more like a family walk on a warm summer night than a traditional photoshoot, which is exactly the goal.

This kind of energy can sometimes feel chaotic for parents in the moment, but it’s often where the most meaningful images come from. Kids are naturally curious and full of personality, and when they have the space to move freely, their true selves show up in the photos.
