We recently celebrated an AMAZING
year of marriage together!
Being a photographer, there are only a few things more important to me than having photographs of all (or most) of our memories. With our one year wedding anniversary approaching, we sat down to think about what kind of traditions we could start of our own. Enter the Anniversary Sessions! Having our milestones displayed in our home, is really important to us. It will be so special to look back at each year- noting our different life changes; eventually adding some little babes to the sessions.
There are a lot of really cool things about my job, but one is that you get to do stuff like this. We had just as much fun shooting this session, as I do when photographing my client’s sessions. I typically don’t enjoy being in front of the camera, but putting myself out there (essentially in my client’s shoes) was actually a really great experience- for us, and for me as a business owner.
For some reason (don’t ask me why), we went into this session thinking we were going to have to pose, and force our smiles. I knew the look I wanted for our images, and so I knew I thought had to direct myself and Derek in a way that we could capture that. In the end, we ended up skipping any kind of direction and just went with what felt natural- which made for a lot of goofy moments (see out takes at the bottom). But, why would I ever prepare us to do anything unnatural, when I would never prepare my clients for that?!
Once we relaxed and settled into the session, and just let it take it’s course, a couple of things happened:
1. We felt relaxed, therefore looked relaxed
2. We had a lot of fun together
3. We connected
So my words of wisdom for you, are to go into your session expecting the above 3 things, let go of any other expectations, and just enjoy each other’s company!
OUT TAKE TIME!
